Region guide
The Savinja Valley
The Savinja Valley is one of Slovenia's most useful bases for a nature holiday. You are close to alpine scenery, river activities, family walks, local food, thermal pools and historic towns, while still being within day-trip distance of Ljubljana, Celje, Bled and Maribor.

Why stay here
Use the valley as a calm base rather than a one-stop sight. Mornings can be for Logar Valley, waterfalls or Golte; afternoons for swimming, local restaurants or a short village walk. The landscape feels open and rural, but the day-trip options are wide.
Places to visit
Logar Valley is the signature alpine valley, Golte works for mountain views and winter sports, Mozirski gaj is easy with children, and Celje adds castle history. Nazarje, Luce, Ljubno and Mozirje are practical stops for food, groceries and local atmosphere.
Activities
Plan hiking, cycling, kayaking or rafting on suitable river sections, horse riding, fishing, paragliding, cave visits and winter skiing at Golte. In bad weather, thermal spas, museums, castles and restaurants keep the itinerary flexible.
Practical notes
- A car is strongly recommended for most holiday homes and trailheads.
- Mountain weather changes quickly; pack layers even in summer.
- Book guided river sports, paragliding and cave visits ahead in peak season.
- For a slower holiday, choose two or three day trips and leave space for local swimming, markets and restaurants.
